Certified Organic Asparagus

In the year 2001 we planted our first crop of organic asparagus.  It is now half of our total asparagus production.  This has been an interesting experience to see how to grow a crop we were very familiar with in an entirely different manner.  No longer able to rely on chemical fertilizers or pesticides we have begun using cover crops of rye, and Dutch white clover in between the rows of asparagus to suppress weed growth.  We have also started using organic compost for fertilizer.  We think these measures have helped us produce a premium quality asparagus without the environmental impact of the conventional.

Our organic asparagus is fully certified by Pro-Cert Organic a Canadian organic certifying body.
